About Salter Point:

Salter Point, is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, which is in the City of South Perth council area.

During the 1880s, Samuel August Salter (named after him) worked on the peninsula as a sawyer and timber contractor. The area was undeveloped at the time, surrounded by dense bush with no access to a road.

A landing stage was built by Alter on the point named "Salter's Landing". From Kelmscott and Jarrahdale, timber logs could be floated to a barge for transportation to a mill. Several years ago, Alter ran his business from this site, leading to the area being renamed "Salter Point".

The son of British immigrants Samuel & Sarah Salter, Samuel August Salter (1848-1930) was brother to Hannah Salter. In 1871, Hannah Buckingham (Salter) married Thomas Buckingham and lived in Kelmscott.

A road leading to the site was built in 1929.

As part of the Canning Road Board merger, the area encompassing Manning, Mt Henry, Salter Point and Waterford became part of South Perth Road Board.

Named Salter Point in 1990, this suburb is located in Liverpool, Ontario.

Plans for the management of the Canning River foreshore have been established.
